Description
A creamy and delicious banana pudding made with fresh bananas and vanilla wafers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 large egg yolks (lightly beaten)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3–4 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 box vanilla wafers (about 12 ounces)
- Whipped cream, for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients and utensils to make the process smooth.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it’s steaming but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt.
- Gradually add the egg yolks to the dry mixture, whisking until smooth.
- Slowly pour in the hot milk while continuing to whisk to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
- Transfer the mixture back to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens (about 5-7 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- In a large serving dish or individual cups, layer the vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and warm pudding. Repeat the layers, finishing with pudding on top.
- Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Before serving, top with whipped cream if desired and some crushed vanilla wafers for added texture.
Notes
- This dish is best chilled overnight for optimal flavor and texture.
- Feel free to adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to taste.
